Hydrocepalus And Cranial Sacral Therapy

Yeasayer: All Hour Cymbals / Odd

group difficult to classify risky without the use of expressions as obscure interminable including my favorite, New Eastern-psych-snap-rock-folk-gospel (???), understand experimental folk-rock to make simple (but still somewhat suggestive), this training is a native of Brooklyn since 2007 his little way, appearing on the net
through videos "Take Away Show" and festivals in addition to Atlantic and MGMT alongside England in particular. The story is not without relevance here, since the musical journey of Yeasayer through his two albums (the same number as MGMT) seems diametrically opposed to that of New York duo. Indeed, after the worldwide success of the very pop Oracular Spectacular (which deserves, I think, to be heard a little further than the overused and now sadly commonplace Kids and Time to Pretend , including with Weekend Wars and The Youth ), MGMT delivered a second album (Congratulations) much more experimental, more interesting I found elsewhere (listen Flash Delirium , It's Working , I Found A Whistle ) and therefore necessarily having less success with the plebeian base. At the same time, Yeasayer spent their first album ( All Hour Cymbals ) released in 2007 and j'affublerais, in addition to several nicknames mentioned above, the adjective awesome, fundamentally new, sometimes surprising, at one second (Old Blood, 2010) sounding more electropop making use recurring sound effect betraying the influence of the duo's success on New Yorkers' small Yeasayer. How to interpret this strange change of direction? Awareness of a talent and desire to make themselves known to as many people with an album more accessible? Opportunism caused by the current wave Eletro-rock?

us is reassuring, however, it does not pass from masterpiece to the turd. Indeed, if the melodies are more pop, instrumental accompaniment more electronic and less refined effects, we recover the leg and the strong personality of the group sound on each piece of Old Blood . You always have the right to a confusing pop, baroque rococo without (border of kitsch, but the right side), even stratospheric air, including ONE , another group's success in Album . Wallop Heart also for songs Madder red for its haunting vocalizations and its ambience (at least I felt) "apache dance around the fire" , and Ambling Alp for his boundless energy. Admittedly, it's very pop, sometimes with sounds, liquid sound of bubbles bursting, especially Ambling Alp (they had to listen Time to Pretend and especially its intro a few times) but nothing to say over there, it's still fresh, new, rich, it feels good and it does not look like the album flared in one week, one who listens distractedly on a computer for the dishes to pass the time. We feel a real research behind, and everything remains consistent and very enjoyable listening.

Ultimately, although at first necessarily surprised by the transition and not clear the turn at right angles made between the two albums, we finally find the complementary from a group that does not seem locked into a style but explore, seek novelty, progress (the future will tell) throughout its journey. It is a bit forced prefer All Hour Cymbals , simpler, more streamlined, less electronics, and especially the brand personality of Yeasayer with more force, which drowns least in electronic effects, but not to throw in Old Blood, quite the contrary. To understand this change of music, including the very air stream 2080 , their best song in my opinion: arpeggio guitar, backing vocals, the bass, drums, everything seems to fly in all directions lavishly when the chorus begins, after a first verse and beating retaining more energy. I take this opportunity to discuss a piece of their debut which is not on any of their albums but that is also worth visiting, Tightrope , with a very tribal drum beat (n ' see none of the connotations of the word bad taste today clothed in the collective imagination, we could use the word shaman, can be a bit much for the occasion ...), harmonies and double voice very neat.

It is all finished so that the end of this article was more to discover in this group resolutely unpronounceable name to comment on the latest album by Yeasayer, I therefore recommend strongly and contained all the same in 15th place in the ranking of the best NME albums of the year and the 22nd-highest ranking Inrockuptibles, which offers an early guarantee of its quality and that of its composers.
