ago in the vast universe the French media landscape (PAF for short) laws as hard to understand but to accept. The war that has always engaged the major terrestrial channels to grab market share could not waive the rule and that is an issue dear to my ears that pays the price, I called Taratata.
A short presentation is necessary: the show, created entirely by Nagui, appeared for the first time on the air in 1993, despite an interruption from 2000 to 2005, it can now boast to be among the few TV programs which enjoy a pleasant stability. Each week, Nagui receives between 4 and 8 groups who come to promote themselves by playing a few songs, punctuated an interview.
First feature (yes it is unfortunately unusual today), the live performances in Taratata are 100% live, which I believe should also be routine for any self-respecting group. But this is generally not their responsibility: the production of variety shows in fact requires most of the time that groups play in playback, so they are sanitized with a holy fright risk (some groups still retain their principles, sometimes in their own way: and Italian during a broadcast, the three members of Muse played Uprising in playback, but by exchanging their instruments, thus giving rise a comical moment when interview, during which the presenter particularly well informed, asked the drummer in mind please contact singer ...).
I do not know if this is directly related to this feature or to work behind the scenes of the film crew, but the invited groups appear more relaxed than usual, apt to let go and interact with the public, creating an almost familiar atmosphere: as though you were with friends for a little impromptu jam (which sometimes actually), but ahead cameras.
Second feature: the programming. Attention, it's heavy! Deep Purple, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Muse, Scorpions, David Bowie, Ben Harper, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys ... All have already moved to Taratata. But where the issue stands out, is advocated with the mixture by prod. If each issue begins with a headline, it continues with groups less well known but equally interesting. Many courses at Taratata passed before exploding in France (for the anecdote, a week before performing at the festival "Santa Claus Is There A Rocker?" Absynthe Minded Taratata was to play "Go" and " My Heroics, Part One "and twice" The Wind Will Carry Us "in duet with Cali, and the famous" Amsterdam "by Jacques Brel). So there is enough to satisfy both the hysteria of the fans short of their idols, and the thirst for discovery.
Third particularity and not least, no question of playing only the latest single! Each guest is asked to prepare a resume and a duet. And again the prod demonstrated originality, allowing the formation of more duets than not. Where is it possible to see a remake of "Requiem" by Serge Gainsbourg unlikely duo Jacques Higelin / Julia Stone Taratata places apart? And the novelty of the thing side also enhances good mood on the set, both groups are happy to break the routine of endless touring.
Finally, the fourth feature, and this is the very essence of the problem that torments me and makes me long to write this article instead allocated to Taratata in the schedules of France Televisions. At the advent of the poet Patrick Sebastien and he does not spend a Saturday night without a show in which celebs nick (thank you Star Academy musicals and other noxious) come back titles disco worn if possible and choose from a list unchanged for over 20 years and maximum of 15 songs long (Emile et Image 5 minutes it will), is broadcast on Taratata France 2 on Friday at 1:10 am, and on France 4 on Wednesday night. Visibility to me unworthy of a program of this quality, proof of total lack of willingness of major French channels, governed by the law of the ratings, to cultivate a minimum its viewers. And the worst part is that this is a vicious circle, the French are less and less able to discover, making it increasingly unlikely that the appearance of a program that is both cultural and acclaimed.
The French media landscape so bogged down in a cult of bad taste, voyeurism, or other perversity fashion, which makes the success of tele-trash everywhere these days, at the expense of culture.
For the curious who have captured the interest of this program, I invite you to visit the show's website, www.mytaratata.com on which each issue is put online entirety.
